Before choosing single- or double-sided glass, mark every seated, standing and walking viewpoint on the floor plan.

The short answer

Choose a single-sided layout when the room has one intentional front. Choose double-sided glass when two zones genuinely share the fire. In both cases, confirm the glass package, complete dimensions and manual operating access in writing before fabrication.

A one-minute floor-plan exercise

Place the SXRXS-X-005 on the project plan, then draw an arrow from every important viewpoint. Use solid arrows for primary views and dotted arrows for occasional views.

  • If nearly every solid arrow approaches from the same side, a single-sided glass arrangement may be the cleaner brief.
  • If two groups of solid arrows approach from opposite sides, double-sided glass may better support a room-divider idea.
  • If arrows cross a busy circulation route, review furniture, clearances and supervision before treating the fireplace as an island.

This quick test prevents two common mistakes: paying for a second viewing face that the room does not use, or discovering too late that the rear of a one-sided composition is visible from another zone.

What is verified for SXRXS-X-005

The live SXFireplace store listing identifies SXRXS-X-005 as a linear manual bioethanol burner with a base. It offers 15 listed sizes, from 500 × 180 × 105 mm through 2,000 × 180 × 105 mm. These are nominal product dimensions, not installation cutout dimensions.

The listing also says that single-sided or double-sided glass is priced separately. It was active when checked on 26 September 2026, while all listed variants showed zero inventory. Availability, production timing and the complete glass-and-base quotation therefore need written confirmation.

One primary view

A good fit for a front-facing lounge or wall-side composition. Align the glass with the seating axis and keep the manual operating path reachable.

Two meaningful views

Useful when the fire visually connects two occupied zones. Review both elevations, both approach routes and access for filling, lighting and extinguishing.

One-sided glass: design one clear front

If the fireplace runs parallel to a wall or faces one seating group, a single-sided arrangement can establish a disciplined front. State which side receives the glass and how the opposite edge meets the surrounding construction.

Because the burner is manually operated, mark the working position on the drawing. The lid tool should be usable without reaching across the flame or navigating around fixed furniture. Our guide Design the Shutdown Before the Flame shows how a full-scale mock-up can reveal access problems early.

Double-sided glass: plan both approaches

A double-sided configuration is strongest when the fire serves two real audiences—perhaps living and dining areas, or two sides of an open-plan lounge. The benefit is a deliberate two-direction viewing experience, not simply more glass.

That choice adds coordination. Both elevations should look intentional; circulation and furniture need to work on both sides; and the team still needs a clear side for manual operation. Glass does not make hot surfaces safe to touch or remove requirements for clearances, ventilation, non-combustible materials and supervision.

Do not turn a nominal size into a cutout

The listed 180 mm width and 105 mm height describe the base variants. They do not establish glass height, mounting details, enclosure opening, surrounding clearances or the complete installed envelope.

Ask for one coordinated package

The quotation should identify burner-base length, glass orientation and dimensions, supplied accessories, finish, quantity, production timing and the matching drawing revision. If the viewing plan changes, request a revised package rather than adapting glass on site.

Five marks your plan should contain

  1. Model and length: SXRXS-X-005 plus the selected live size.
  2. Viewing arrows: one or two intended flame-view directions.
  3. Glass labels: the requested single- or double-sided arrangement.
  4. Operating position: access for filling, lighting, lid control and inspection.
  5. Context: materials, opening, finished level, furniture and installation country.

Send the floor plan, not just a product screenshot

Include the selected length, glass arrangement, quantity, finish and destination so SXFireplace can review the configuration and provide the matching quotation and drawing.

Safety note: Bioethanol fireplaces use an open flame. Follow the model-specific instructions for fuel, filling, ignition, extinguishing, cooling, ventilation and maintenance. Never add fuel while the burner is lit or hot. Installation must comply with applicable local building and fire-safety requirements.
