Plan the Shutdown Path: A Cold Mock-Up for an SXRX Sliding-Lid Burner
A full-scale, cold and empty mock-up helps reveal an awkward tool approach before the surround is built. Use this practical recording checklist with the exact selected unit.

A manual burner can fit the opening yet remain difficult to operate once glass, stone and furniture are in place. Before fabrication, test the complete route from the operator’s standing position to the supplied tool and moving lid. A cold mock-up gives the design team a practical way to find obstructions while changes are still straightforward.
This is a layout rehearsal with no fuel and no flame. It does not establish fire clearances, approve a product or replace the instructions for the installed model.
Identify the burner you are testing
The current SXFG-1000 sliding-lid burner reference describes a 1000 mm-class manual insert with a mechanical lid and operating tool. Other lengths and lid details are subject to quotation. Do not use a different catalogue’s size range as the dimensions of this unit.
Before making the mock-up, record the quotation reference, exact SKU, overall assembly, lid arrangement, tool supplied and approved drawing revision. Keep the product’s nominal dimensions separate from the required opening, support and clearance dimensions. The technical resources page explains why family manuals and planning references must be matched to the supplied configuration.
Build a full-scale representation of the finished setting
- Start with the agreed operator side. Mark where the responsible adult will normally stand. Include the furniture and circulation route that will remain after handover.
- Represent the finished surfaces. Include the front edge, ledge, glass, trim and any projection near the operating path. A bare opening can conceal a problem that appears only after finishing.
- Mark the burner opening and intended flame zone. Use the project documentation, rather than a flame height estimated from a photograph. The operating route must not require reaching across the future flame.
- Use the actual supplied tool where possible. Rehearse the approach and the manufacturer-described lid movement on the cold, empty unit. A cardboard outline alone cannot demonstrate the mechanism.
- Include the return path. Check how the tool is withdrawn and returned to its designated storage point without obstruction.
Check four things during the rehearsal
The tool can engage the intended operating point
Watch for contact with a glass edge, projecting trim or deep ledge. Record the obstruction and change the surrounding design through the project team. Do not bend the tool or modify the lid to compensate for an unsuitable surround.
The required lid movement remains clear
Observe the full travel described for the selected model. Do not infer a universal sliding distance from the nominal burner length. If the mechanism catches, is distorted or does not close correctly, stop the rehearsal and have the supplier assess it.
The operator has a stable position
Try the movement from the actual standing position with the finished furniture represented. The user should not have to lean over the opening, brace against glass or move an object out of the way before reaching the control.
The tool has an agreed storage place
Choose a consistent location accessible to the responsible operator and protected from casual misuse. Include it in the handover record. A loose tool left in a cupboard elsewhere in the room defeats the purpose of rehearsing the route.
Record the test so it survives fabrication

| Record | What to capture |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Exact SKU, quotation and applicable manual revision |
| Drawing | Approved revision and the finished materials represented |
| Operating side | Standing position, approach and tool-storage location |
| Movement | Photographs of engagement, full lid travel and withdrawal |
| Open issue | Obstruction, responsible person, correction and repeat-test result |
Repeat the relevant checks if the glass, trim, burner configuration or furniture arrangement changes. Success on one unit does not validate a different lid, length or surround.
Complete the technical review separately
The project still needs the correct support, materials, ventilation, fuel-handling arrangement and model-specific clearances. The public manual-burner family guide is a starting point; confirm its applicability to the delivered unit. Qualified project professionals and the supplier should resolve the construction details before the surround is released.
Never add fuel to a burner that is burning or hot. The actual filling, ignition, shutdown and cooling procedure belongs to the applicable manual and operator handover, not to this empty mock-up.
Request a model-specific review with the selected SKU, drawing, finish, destination and photographs of the proposed operator side.
Use the installation planning guide to coordinate the construction questions that a cold mock-up cannot resolve.
