Why is there a small mesh sleeve around some ethanol burner outlets? It may look like something to remove during cleaning, but a fitted sleeve can be part of the ignition arrangement.

Concept walkthrough

Why a fitted mesh matters

  1. Spread fuel locally
  2. Support ignition in this design
  3. Keep the original assembly
  4. Report a loose part

What the mesh is there to do

In designs that use this component, the mesh can spread and briefly retain a small amount of fuel near the ignition area. This gives the ignition source an opportunity to heat the fuel instead of letting it immediately flow away. The sleeve supports that particular design; it is not a decorative trim or a promise that every start will succeed.

Different burners use different ignition arrangements. Do not assume every SXFireplace model has a sleeve, or that a mesh taken from another burner will fit.

Take care when cleaning

Wait for shutdown and cooling, then clean only the surfaces identified in the care instructions. Do not pull a fitted sleeve away because it catches a brush.

If a part comes loose, leave the fireplace out of use. Record where it was found and photograph the cold, accessible area. Get the correct component and fitting instructions rather than making a replacement from household mesh or starting the burner to see whether it still works.

Keep the confirmed part information with the operating documents so the next person cleaning the fireplace knows what should stay in place.
