A lower fuel bill and fewer refills are two different goals. Both came up when a Swedish restaurant contacted sales@sxfireplace.com about its two RX400Y ethanol fireplaces, each used for approximately seven hours a day.

This customer email Q&A explains SXFireplace’s validated fuel-saving options, the visual trade-offs and how to turn them into a realistic fuel budget.

Q: What did the restaurant want to change?

The customer wanted to reduce bioethanol consumption and daily refilling work while keeping a similar flame effect and fireplace appearance. Here is the original enquiry, with identifying details removed.

Q: How can SXFireplace reduce ethanol fireplace fuel consumption?

For this enquiry, our technical response focused on reducing the exposed burning area. SXFireplace has confirmed that the following approaches have been validated and can be implemented with the appropriate factory-approved configuration.

Custom ring-shaped trough: approximately 35% reduction

A 3 cm ring-width burner trough uses a smaller burning area while retaining a ring-shaped flame. For the configuration evaluated, we use approximately 35% lower fuel consumption as a reference for that configuration.

Custom circular trough: approximately 80% reduction

A trough with a 5 cm diameter reduces the burning area further. The reference for the validated configuration is approximately 80% lower consumption, with a smaller flame display.

Validated heat-resistant stone configuration

A suitable, validated heat-resistant stone/material arrangement can reduce the exposed burning area. No percentage is assigned to this option. SXFireplace must confirm the material, structure and implementation for the actual burner.

These figures apply to the evaluated configurations, not every SXRX or SXKT fireplace. Do not substitute ordinary stones or modify fuel pumps, sensors or ventilation yourself. Obtain the matching factory design and installation instructions.

Q: Is 28 litres per day the customer’s measured consumption?

No. It is an illustrative budget assumption: 2 units × 2 L/hour × 7 hours = 28 L/day. The assumed 2 L/hour is not an official RX400Y fuel-consumption rating.

Scroll across the table to see all columns.

Illustrative daily fuel budget for both units combined
Budget scenario Total fuel per day
Assumed starting point 28 L
Applying a 35% reduction 18.2 L
Applying an 80% reduction 5.6 L

The reduced totals are conditional calculations, not recorded daily results. If your delivered fuel price per litre is P, the corresponding daily budgets are 28P, 18.2P and 5.6P. No local price was provided, so we do not invent a currency amount or payback period.

Use the fuel consumption reference guide to distinguish documented model rates from illustrative budget assumptions.

The SXFireplace technical reply

Redacted SXFireplace technical reply on reducing RX400Y ethanol fuel consumption, dated 5 October 2026
5 October 2026: redacted and re-typeset original email excerpt, not an original mailbox screenshot. Open the image for full-size reading. The 28 L/day baseline and reduced daily totals are budget assumptions, not measured operating records.

Q: Would a larger tank solve both problems?

Not automatically. With other conditions unchanged, a larger tank changes the interval between refills, not litres burned per hour. Assess consumption and refilling workload separately, and follow the exact model’s shutdown, cooldown and filling instructions. Never refill a lit or hot burner.

Discuss a project-specific fuel-saving solution

Send your model, number of units, operating hours, structure photos and preferred flame appearance. SXFireplace can evaluate the suitable trough or material configuration before implementation.

See the related SXRX-Y-002 round smart bioethanol insert and request a custom solution. The standard product listing does not promise the custom savings in this case. Our custom fireplace quotation checklist helps define what your project proposal should include.

This article draws on anonymized customer correspondence and SXFireplace technical confirmation. Fuel reductions refer to the configurations evaluated; actual consumption depends on the burner and operating conditions.
